Learning Journals

A learning journal is where the *key person records a collection of photos, art-work, mark-making and observations made by practitioners including notes of relevant conversations or comments made by the child are recorded. All this evidence helps us to create a full picture of a child’s development under the areas of learning identified in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The children enjoy sharing their learning journals with each other and their families as they are very proud of them. They also make a wonderful keepsake of the child's time at Rainbows.

*The key person is a named practitioner who has responsibilities for a small group of children, they are there to help the child feel safe and secure. The role is important for both child and parent and it is an approach set out in the EYFS. The key person will respond to children’s needs and help them settle into a new environment, communicate is paramount between parent and key person as these discussions hold key information about the child. A Key person will be a point of contact for parents.
